Former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad praised Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his support and leadership role in the “Afghan-Trans” corridor project.
Khalilzad said the corridor would connect Central Asia, via Afghanistan, to South Asia, the Arabian Sea, the Arabian Gulf, and the Indian Ocean, opening up significant opportunities for economic development, trade, and stability in the region.
He stressed that one of the most prominent obstacles facing this major project is the strained relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, arguing that the two countries should pursue diplomatic channels to resolve their differences and thereby pave the way for the implementation of regional economic projects.
