
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the successful conclusion of the first meeting of the high-level committee emanating from the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland.
Sharif said the talks were held in a positive and constructive atmosphere and led to encouraging progress, including agreement on a road map for reaching a final agreement within sixty days, the establishment of a high-level committee to oversee the political track, and the start of further technical talks.
The Pakistani prime minister praised the leaderships of the United States and Iran for what he described as their continued commitment to constructive engagement, extending his thanks to brotherly and friendly countries for their valuable support in advancing this historic track. He gave special appreciation to the State of Qatar for the pivotal support it provided in creating the conditions necessary for the negotiations to progress, and he also thanked the Swiss government for facilitating the hosting of the talks.
Sharif offered particular praise to Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, considering that his tireless efforts were behind the success of these talks, and that his dedication, commitment, and perseverance were an indispensable condition for achieving any progress. He also expressed his gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and his team at the Foreign Ministry for their diplomatic efforts, while likewise commending the work done by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, which contributed significantly to the success of the talks.
The Pakistani prime minister affirmed that his country would continue to play its sincere role in promoting dialogue and diplomacy, toward a peaceful and lasting settlement.
