Khost province has opened its first center for issuing the national electronic identity card at the district level, a step aimed at bringing the service closer to citizens and easing the burden of travel. The center will serve not only residents of Sabari and Yaqubi districts, but also those of Ali Sher, Terezayi, Zazi Maidan, and Bak.

Mohammad Asif Karrar, director of the Statistics and Information Department in Khost, said work is under way to expand these services to additional districts. He explained that the center will serve residents of Sabari and Yaqubi alongside those of Zazi Maidan, Bak, and Ali Sher. He added that Sabari was chosen because it is a central area frequently visited by residents to attend to their daily needs, which makes providing electronic ID services there more convenient for the local population.

Residents of Sabari and Yaqubi say they previously faced considerable difficulties in obtaining the electronic ID, as travel expenses and other costs prevented many from accessing the service.

Sadiqullah, a local resident, said some people had been unable to travel to the provincial center to obtain the ID because of economic hardship and the cost of transportation, and he expressed great satisfaction at the center’s opening.

For his part, citizen Hidayat Hamim noted that the center had brought relief not only to the people of Sabari, but also to residents of Bak, Zazi Maidan, and Ali Sher districts, affirming that obtaining the electronic ID had become far easier than before.

Noor Rahman, also a local resident, said the national ID represents proof of a citizen’s identity, and that obtaining it had once been fraught with difficulties requiring travel to the provincial capital—but the opening of this center has made the process much simpler.

According to Khost’s Statistics and Information Department, more than 51,000 national electronic ID cards were issued in the province during 2025.
